Darkstar Intro - Recently discovered I have PSSD

Unread post by DarkStar »

I was put on Prozac ( i think 10mg? I have bad memory problems now) around 2015-2017 at age 17 for social anxiety and depression by my GP. Before this I was an A+ student, creative, loved music. After being on it for two years I noticed my overall well being started to decline. I started falling asleep in class, loss of motivation, and organization skills diminished. Finally after taking prozac everyday for about 2 years I made the bad decision to quit cold turkey. This past year has been absolute hell for me. Terrible brain fog, loss of libido and standard PSSD, loss of a range of emotions, cannot enjoy music and terrible motivation. This new years I had a terrible anxiety attack where I fainted.Upon coming to I had even worse brain fog and its taken a while to get to a functioning level. Ive started to eat clean, taking supplements (SJW, NAC, Magnesium, and a few more), and trying to exercise more regularly but I have not noticed much improvement. I have recently gotten into a relationship for the first time in the 2 years and It made me realize I have a serious problem. I get anxious every time I think she wants to have sex, and have not been able to "preform" multiple times. On top of that I feel like I should be happy and in love with her but I just cant feel anything. Ive had terrible thoughts recently, thoughts of self harm and recurring thoughts of suicide. Im not sure what to do, I feel so broken and screwed up.
I need some sort of advice. Am i totally fucked from quitting cold turkey? Do I have irreversible nerve damage? Should I try taking a low dose of prozac? Are there any other supplements I should take? I have a meeting with my GP tomorrow and I really have no idea what i should be asking him about. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Hey thanks for joining. This sounds a lot like my story. Sounds like you're already doing your body a favor and eating clean. While we don't really know what causes PSSD, personally I'm quite skeptical of any nerve damage theory. Dysregulation? sure.

If you haven't already, you'll want to have a look through the wordpress site:

https://pssdlab.wordpress.com/

In addition, if you haven't already, get a full hormonal and thyroid blood test to establish a baseline. These would include total testosterone, free testosterone, estradiol, prolactin, SHBG, progesterone, LH/FSH, Thyroid stimulating hormone, Free T3/T4, RT3

Also, please consider getting your genes tested and contribute to Ghost's gene analysis project. He's going to analyze what we all have in common and has already found some interesting things

Hey man, welcome to the site. We are all here for you.

Check out the links Juvo posted, they have a lot of information in them.

Also, please consider becoming a part of our genetic database like Juvo said. It will give you a lot of information about your health that can help PSSD and mental illness.

Sorry to tell you but the meeting with the GP will likely be useless. They won't believe you. They will ask you all sorts of insulting and personal questions about your sex life and their expert advice will amount to 'go back on the prozac and try out this other psychiatric drug too for good measure.' Insist on referral to an endocrinologist (NOT a psychiatrist or psychologist) and then get out of there.

Very similar to my story. I was 17 and on prozac as well. Sorry this happened to you.
21, male, extreme pssd for four years
Tried inositol (slight improvements) cialis (very limited improvements) yohimbine (slight improvements) maca root (no effect) bacopa monieri (no effect) estradiol-17b (pronounced improvement in all areas of sexuality)

Wow... only see a endocrinologist... that's the surefire answer. Can you link me to all the people who say they have been cured by one? The true ironic thing is, if went to endo, after hearing that history would instantly refer to psych.

The OP said "Ive had terrible thoughts recently, thoughts of self harm and recurring thoughts of suicide. Im not sure what to do, I feel so broken and screwed up" and you say NOT to see even a psychologist. You don't consider that to be irresponsible thing to say?

Im sorry to see another sufferer join the family too; but when the person is at a point hes a suicide risk.... PSSD can wait. That needs to be address first. Dead patient never recovers.

Yes - this is a good point. Definitely stabilize yourself first before addressing the sexual symptoms. However, I'm of the opinion they're all related, many here have anhedonia and worsening moods - all signs of hormonal dysfunction in my opinion.

Update: Started on sildenafil with maintaining an erection but nothing for my libido
Doctor also recommended welbutrin (150 mg XL), which i have been taking for about a week now and have only had some minor affects.
Initially I thought my PSSD was caused by cold turkeying off Prozac about 1.5 years ago, but after lurking more I think there might be more to it. I was on Effexor 75mg for about 2 weeks around January of this year and was scared it would be having adverse affects so I also quit that cold turkey. I remember my sex drive during that period wasn't horrible (maybe a tiny bit better than it is now), so Im wondering if that could have also attributed to my PSSD.
I was thinking if it would be worth it to go back on effexor for a short period of time and try to ween off or also maybe microdosing it. Is it even worth it about 5 months later? Any insight is appreciated.
