Antidepressant Interactions with the NMDA NR1-1b Subunit

SSRI and Thalidomide both can cause memory issues, both interact with NMDA receptors
Any thoughts on this?
perhaps we have an NMDA receptor dysfunction?

Psychiatric side effects of medications prescribed in internal medicine (01 Apr 2022)
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10 ... randetango

Psychiatric side effects (PSEs)
The focus of this review is on depression, anxiety, and psychotic states, but a few other PSEs are also mentioned.

"Mefloquine, which is prescribed for the prophylaxis or treatment of malaria, frequently causes PSEs. These PSEs can be severe: psychosis, delusion, and even suicidal ideation. Disabling PSEs occur in less than 1% of patients under mefloquine at therapeutic doses, and in less than 1:10 000 under mefloquine prophylaxis. This indicates that the PSEs are dose-related. However, suicide attempts have even been reported at prophylactic doses.158,159 Mefloquine PSEs may begin some hours after the first dose.8,160 Their mechanism Is not clearly understood; actions as a N methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist or on sigma receptors have been proposed. Chloroquine, another antimalarial, also produces psychiatric and neurological side effects: agitation, aggressiveness, amnesia, confusion, depression, hallucinations, and mania. Psychiatric changes under chloroquine may develop Insidiously. Memory or perception changes can be the only clues to side effects In this developing phase. The half -life of chloroquine Is long at around 1 month. Therefore, remission of a chloroquinerelated PSE may take days. Children appear to be at greatest risk to psychosis under chloroquine treatment.81"

Finasteride/Ethanol
I've heard a few people mentioning hangovers affecting their symptoms.
Ethanol enhances neurosteroidogenesis in hippocampal pyramidal neurons by paradoxical NMDA receptor activation

Finasteride - NMDA relation
"and the ability of NMDA to inhibit LTP and to enhance neurosteroid staining was reversed by finasteride and dutasteride, as well as by APV."

Accutane
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 5321001566
"There are a number of possible mechanisms by which elevated homocysteine could cause symptoms of depression. Abnormalities of the hippocampus, a brain region involved in learning and memory, have been linked to depression (Bremner et al., 2000; Duman, 2004; Nibuya et al., 1995; Santarelli et al., 2003; Sheline et al., 1996). Homocysteine stimulates N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, which are highly concentrated in the hippocampus, resulting in calcium influx and excitoxicity (Lipton et al., 1997). Homocysteine also impairs DNA repair in hippocampal neurons (Kruman et al., 2002) with associated cell death (Kruman et al., 2000). Elevated concentrations of homocysteine have been associated with reduced cortical and hippocampal volumes (den Heijer et al., 2003; Williams et al., 2002). These studies suggest that homocysteine may act through the hippocampus to mediate symptoms of depression."
