Turmeric Curcumin

Unread post by zbritches »

I have made improvements. As always, I don't want to hype my stack in case what works for me doesn't work for anyone else.

This is what I'm currently on:

After reading about the 5-ht1A up-regulation (agonist maybe) effects of Turmeric (Curcumin) from one of Ghost's posts (hehe, ghost's posts) I began taking it every day. I take between 3 and 6 capsules every day, along with including black pepper in my diet. Black pepper has the ability to increase absorption of Turmeric by 1,000X.

Just search for "5ht1a turmeric" if you'd like to read about the agonism effects.

I also take malic acid to increase absorption.

I don't even remember where I first read about Berberine, but I did, and began taking it in the form of Oregon Grape. 3x times a day.

Here's a bit from the wikipedia article on Berberine:
Berberine seems to act as an herbal antidepressant and a neuroprotector against neurodegenerative disorders.[91][92][93][94] Berberine inhibits prolyl oligopeptidase (POP) in a dose-dependent manner. Berberine is also known to bind to sigma receptors like many synthetic antidepressant drugs. As berberine is a natural compound that has been safely administered to humans, preliminary results suggest the initiation of clinical trials in patients with depression, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, or related diseases in which cognitive capabilities are affected, with either the extract or pure berberine. New experimental results suggest berberine may have a potential for inhibition and prevention of Alzheimer's disease (AD), mainly through both cholinesterase (ChEs) inhibitory and β-amyloids pathways,[95][96] and additionally through antioxidant capacities.[97]

Other studies have shown berberine to increase noradrenaline and serotonin levels in the brain (rats) while inhibiting dopaminergic activity.[98][99] The half-life of berberine in vivo seems to be three to four hours, thus suggesting administration three times a day if steady levels are to be achieved.[100]
In addition to these two, I'm taking fish oil.

I've managed to eliminate Huperzine A, Tribulus Terrestris, and Alpha GPC from my daily supplements. I've woken up with a morning erection every day for the last month almost, it seems to be improving every day. I also have stronger erection strength, and overall a sense of myself has returned. I believe the antidepressant effects of these plants is also having a benefit on my personality. I seem to be in better spirits overall. Orgasm strength (sans pornography) has returned to near normal levels.

Things I have on hand/other things I'm taking:

I have Huperzine that I take some days, but not every day. I'm trying to phase it out, but still use it for days I want an extra energy/libido boost.

I have a supply of buspar, but haven't needed to take it recently. Last time I took it was about 3 weeks ago, and I had an erection for 2 hours. This was during sex. I consider it a "boost."

I've been taking naproxen for back pain.

I've been taking ginger.

It seems like anti-inflammatory things might possibly help?

....

Anyway, it seems like Fish Oil + Turmeric/Black Pepper + Malic acid + Oregon Grape is helping. I'd recommend Turmeric-Curcumin.com for turmeric. I use Nature's Way Oregon Grape. I have a second Turmeric (store brand, Lindburgh) that includes black pepper, as well as taking a lot of black pepper on my food at almost every meal.

I've also STOPPED drinking, and using marijuana. I also have limited my pornography usage. These things may/may not have any effect.

I should add I still have somewhat "muted" sensitivity. For this I've been using lotions, as that seems to heighten sensations. I briefly used Arbonne Intelligence rejuvenating cream. It is somewhat pricey, but it seems to jump start blood circulation (kind of feels like icy hot). It is possible it has increased sensation.

Even just using regular lubricants is a good idea.

This was a lengthy way of saying: research Turmeric Curcumin and Berberine.

Thanks for the info. The black pepper thing is interesting.

There was a massive thread on berberine on the old version of this forum. I seem to remember that it didn't help most people and for some, made their condition worse.

May I ask why you've largely eliminated huperzine from your stack? Did it not work for you? Did you experience side-effects? If so, what side-effects?

My guess is that any improvements are likely not due to the naproxen or ginger, but I could be wrong. Please keep updating.

I did experience side effects from the huperzine, mostly agitation of my manic symptoms. It seems to help in some aspects, while making others worse. If I take too much of it, it has a tendency to make me manic. Also apparently my triglyceride level is 275 instead of 150. One of the "other ingredients" in my huperzine supplement is "medium chain triglycerides," so I started cutting it back, but maybe I should simply look for a different type of huperzine. Today I took 2, so I'll see how my base line is today. I also took an extra large dose of turmeric.

The first time I took Oregon Grape I had a morning erection the day after. It seems to help me.

I've read some things about how ginger has partial 5ht1a agonist properties as well, but I imagine they're less than others.
Animal studies suggest that ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) reduces anxiety. In this study, bioactivity-guided fractionation of a ginger extract identified nine compounds that interact with the human serotonin 5-HT(1A) receptor with significant to moderate binding affinities (K(i)=3-20 microM). [(35)S]-GTP gamma S assays indicated that 10-shogaol, 1-dehydro-6-gingerdione, and particularly the whole lipophilic ginger extract (K(i)=11.6 microg/ml) partially activate the 5-HT(1A) receptor (20-60% of maximal activation). In addition, the intestinal absorption of gingerols and shogaols was simulated and their interactions with P-glycoprotein were measured, suggesting a favourable pharmacokinetic profile for the 5-HT(1A) active compounds.
I also stopped the huperzine to see if my positive effects were from something else. They stayed after I stopped. I still believe huperzine is a viable supplement for PSSD, since I've gotten a lot of positive effects from it. I may just need to limit/alter *my* intake.

Not to get graphic but I got a pic from a girl I'm talking to, and I immediately got hard. Like instant response time. Precum back to tolerable levels. Still strong orgasm, anorgasmia seems to be getting better.

I had a lot of black pepper on my eggs with breakfast, 2000 mg of Turmeric, 500 mg oregon grape, 1010 mg ginger, and 400 mcg huperzine, plus fish oil + vitamin D.

This is the best I've felt in a long time since PSSD. One thing I've noticed is pleasure when I pee again. I hadn't experienced that in a long time, one thing I always noticed about that was how good it felt to pee after sex. That went away with PSSD.

I'll see if this holds and try to make occasional updates every week or so, maybe month.

The Black Pepper thing is really interesting. It's something I haven't tried yet.

This is from another thread, but is my experience with the stuff. 1375mg a day or something very close to that. Tumeric.

"I took it in 2, 4 day sprees. The second was right after the first so it was like xxxx0xxxx0.

Definitely could feel more of my genitals the first day both times. First time I thought it was a coincidence, but it happened day 1 the second time too. Day 4 of the first run I had really bad PSSD at night. Nothing at all was going on down there, and things were number. Which was really weird. I was slightly encouraged though because it was a change. I was wondering if something had been re-wired. The second 4 day streak didn't have the terrible PSSD streak day 4, so I think it was coincidence the first time. Either way, I felt that maybe part of the anti-libido side was kicking in, so I've decided to take Curcumin in small increments, and cause the 5ht1a mRNA upregulation to happen slowly after many shorter trials on it. Because the first day it would feel pretty good. Didn't do anything for erection though. One of the reasons I quit is because I was really busy with school and forgot. I really have decreased the amount of time I spend on the forum, and am trying to take some time to try some things out and accept this all. I'm glad others have been encouraged by my experiment. It's ongoing, and something that will be a long term project."

Now that I've been off it for a few days, any anti-libido side effects I maybe had are gone. Sensitivity was good today. I'm gonna try this again with the black pepper soon. Maybe I could get the acute exposure that would resensitize, and not have the possible anti-libido side effect from long term treatment.

Alright so I'm back at it today.

zbritches said that adding black pepper increased Curcumin absorption about a month ago. I never take a claim without researching, and I looked this over and it appears legit

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9619120

"The study shows that in the dosages used, piperine enhances the serum concentration, extent of absorption and bioavailability of curcumin in both rats and humans with no adverse effects."

I have nothing big going on today, so I decided why not try this? I told myself I would after all.

I've cut my dose from 1350mg to 900mg because I've never done this before. I don't know exactly how much black pepper I'll use, probably just enough so that the cafeteria workers don't think I'm weird.

Will update soon.

use with cayenne or capsicum ( + black pepper ) which raise nitric oxide.

I just wanted to check in and say things seem to be going well for me, I'd almost say I'm fine, or have been these last few weeks since I posted. There are a few days that I feel I'm not recovered, but I've woken up every day with morning wood, I think every day.

I take 2,000 mg Curcumin in the morning, with Fish Oil to increase absorption, sometimes followed by a glass of water and black pepper. I also take 500 mg Oregon Grape.

I've started taking Huperzine-A again. Not every day, but things seem slightly better on days I take it. Also helps energy levels...

I take another 1 or 2 thousand mg's of curcumin around lunchtime, with another oregon grape, and fish oil.

Then again at night.

I can have sex seemingly like normal. On a side note I'm also restoring my foreskin... which has helped restore some sensitivity.

I keep expecting it to stop working, but it isn't. Last time I updated I thought it stopped working for a couple days, then it came right back perhaps even stronger.

I still am not drinking or smoking too.

Also curcumin I think may be tough on kidneys so I'm taking cranberry. Also ginger intermittently.
