Betaine HCl

Unread post by raven100 »

I've held off posting this until I was absolutely sure that it was Betaine that's responsible for my improvements, and now I am. It's been 2-3 months since I started taking Betaine HCL capsules:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Betaine-HCl-64 ... B06XFLDTFH

with every meal. I've had huge improvements with my brain fog, the feeling of having a 'pressure' in my head, as well as other cognitive symptoms are now very tolerable, sometimes non existent. I would definitely recommend trialling, working out your dose by following this site:

https://scdlifestyle.com/2012/03/how-to ... mach-acid/

Unfortunately sexual sides haven't improved, but life is so much more tolerable when brain fog isn't prominent, I actually didn't realise how important it was until it went. I don't know really if anhedonia has improved as well as a result, I'm actively looking forward to things, feeling like I have purpose, enjoying socialising etc, but I'm not feeling those really powerful emotions listening to music etc. So there is still a way to go.

Thats great, raven!
Is it all positive effects or 'negative' as well, like more anxiety and such?

Very nice to hear man!
How many have you been taking per meal? Also, have you tried how you feel without taking them (did this effect stick)?

Nope, all positive

Unfortunately it didn't stick, I tried a few days last week and my brain fog was as heavy as ever, then reinstated and it dissipated within two hours. Honestly I don't mind taking Betaine as a digestive aid indefinitely, it's not a psychiatric medicine, it's just a digestive aid. I've heard that it can naturally balance stomach acid levels over time so you don't have to take it forever, but even if that wasn't true for me it'd be fine.

I've been taking 2 per meal, if I eat a high protein meal I'll take 3, but I think it's important to figure out what dose works best for you using the technique in the second link I posted above.

If i remember correctly from the hackstasis forum, it was meant to support digestion? Did you have issues with that or do you have an explaination why this is fixing your brain fog?

Yep, supports digestion by helping the stomach create more acid. I haven't had digestion issues, not for years anyway, I don't have an explanation for why it alleviated my brain fog, but I'm optimistic that it could help other people here, cause on hackstatis I've seen a few people who found similar benefits with brain fog in particular.

Yeah i agree and it seems cheap and safe to use. Did you ever feel similar with other sups or meds by any chance? Ella for instance helped me, but thats not something you can take continuously.

Hi @raven,
Did u have the GERD symptoms before the meds or it get worse after the meds?

I am suffering severly from these and nothing seems to help as of now. I do have brain fog, memory issues, fatigue along with GERD or indigestion - idk what to call it.
Should I try for Betaine HCl .. i am currently taking CBD which is I suppose not working as little expected.

Had to stop taking Betaine temporarily due to stomach issues caused my unrelated unhealthy eating in the run up to my exams, brain fog now worse again. Really excited for other people to try it though. Anyone got any positive or negative results to share? Obviously we've seen that supplements don't work for multiple people as often as we'd like but it's hard not to feel enthusiasm when something works for you.
