Did a small dose of effexor last night.

Extreme PSSD, and feeling emotionally numb.

I might stop low dosing effexor, and try paxil again next week as I was seeing better results.

..it might be something about it..

I have tried this low dose approach by reinstating sertraline 3mg before bed.
Next morning when I woke up my dick was even more numb - so I dont know, no nerve response at all - no tingling, nothing, so I rather didnt continue.
Im wondering - I choose sertraline because of its action on DAT reuptake, and this was my first SSRI I tried in the past for 5 days and didnt get PSSD (experienced some nerve tingling during the last 5th day but after I quit everything was just fine), the real PSSD I got from Paxil which I took 11 days so I dont know whether it would make any difference if I try to reinstate Paxil instead- I dont think so.

My whole body is numb - feels like dead arm, interesting thing is when I grab my dick when the shrinkage is most severe to make more blood come in to the tissue I can feel some response of the nerves in my leg - which is also numb - its weird feeling, the nerves are there but not working

One more thing I want to share with you, I was pretty sick 2 weeks ago, fever etc. so I had to take paracetamol, my dick almost disappeared - totally numb I thought thats over for me.
Then I found this study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15214507 which claims that paracetamol raises serotonin levels in brain, make sense.
I immediately took aspirin whether it would counteract the paracetamol effect, I didnt notice anything significant but after a week everything came back to normal as it was before the sickness.
So do not take paracetamol if you have PSSD, it made my days even worse.

I agree with you sadkeanu. I almost lost my mind yesterday it wasn't good. I screwed up bad by trying effexor.

A little run down from Monday.

I went to the Doctor on Monday and asked for low does Effexor. The lowest it comes in is 37.5mg. I figured I would be fine because when I first took it in 2005 I started at 75mg.

I doesed 37.5mg Monday evening, and with in the hour I felt emotionally numb. This feeling continued on all day Tuesday, and had extreme PSSD

Wednesday morning woke with a morning erection, and feeling great. I felt great all day. Like holy shit this is a great amazing feeling, maybe this is what life is suppose to feel like . I had to slow myself down at some points. I was going to dose another 37.5mg but felt I should wait another day just to see.

Thursday morning I woke up feeling O.K. By 10am my mood started to decline. By 11 I hit an all time low. I was riding a very fine line of sanity and insanity too the point where I didn't know if I was gonna make it.

I was numb all over with the darkest thoughts running through my mind. I was driving and couldn't hear what was playing on the radio even though it was on. I felt like I wasn't even in this world. I managed to pull over and calm my mind down by meditating and doing some breathing exercises. I was able to get home and shut down for the day.

Today Im still feeling a little sketchy but I can manage, and the worst is over.

Im going to seek professional help for this. I live in Canada and there are great resources for mental health. Hopefully by me sharing it with the proper channels other than my family Doctor it will bring more attention and awareness too it.

SSRIs / SNRIs will always feel horrible when starting, because you have to wait for 5ht1a to desensitise. Thats the entire therapeutic effect of SSRIs. They will not do anything at small doses intermittently. I could see them somehow upregulating certain receptors in tiny microdoses, similar to amphetamines.

Jaiho, do you think electric shocks are just part of remission in severe depression?
Do you think tingling all over the body is?
Spontaneous fever?

Ah, 37.5mg is pretty high, 1/3rd or 1/4th of that would probably be a better dose for effexor! But if it's xr, it's a little trickier to measure, I remember tapering off of itand having to deal with the different beads inside the capsule..
