Identical twin poll results - 1 twin pair with+without PSSD/PFS suggests strong environment factors

Unread post by glennchan »

1 out of 5 twin pairs reported that one twin has PSSD/PFS and the other doesn't. This suggests that ~1-in-5 or more of all sufferers are experiencing PSSD/PFS mainly due to environmental factors and not genetics.

Genetic research is worth doing + ghost's work

Ghost PSSD is doing something similar to a GWAS (genome wide association study) study, which can detect genetic influences on a condition. For example, HIV is *not* genetic and is obviously a virus that you get from your environment (e.g. mother, partner, donated blood, etc.). Some people have genes that make them resistant to HIV because their CCR5 receptor is different and the HIV virus normally uses it to enter cells.

That type of research led to CCR5 antagonist drugs such as maraviroc.

So it's definitely worth looking at genetics to understand the cause and mechanics of PSSD... it could lead to treatment in the future.

If you have 23andMe data, please join ghost's study. List of all currently recruiting studies here: https://www.longhaulwiki.com/index.php/ ... _syndromes
