I’m a longtime PSSD sufferer (8-10 years, it’s complicated). I started trying to recover in 2017. Last year, 2019, I feel like I had made some great advances. I was still suffering a lot of sexual side affects, but my libido had magically switched back on. Not 100%, perhaps only 30-40% of original me but it was there. I even started dating and got a girlfriend. The biggest improvement though was that my anhedonia was waning... I actually wanted things again and was making plans for the future of course, at the time I wasn’t even really aware of how much those things had changed in me. Anyway I was still having lots of sexual issues and got around it with viagra as needed. To be honest I didn’t really mind this much.

Anyway, after following this thread for a super longtime, I thought SJW could possibly help me rewire things to get downstairs working more normally, mostly based on the initial reports that said it helped them and they had got their PSSD from the same antidepressant as me, Citlopram.

I decided to give it a go for 1 month, which was in December. Mostly it was pretty uneventful but in the last week I had something super scary happen. I woke up and I couldn’t see. It was like thick Vaseline was smeared all over the inside of my eyes. It was terrifying. My eyes slowly started clearing. It took about an hour so that I could see pretty normal and got myself into a clinic. They did a bunch of tests and said there was nothing wrong. In the afternoon I managed to get into an optometrist and was checked out there and they said everything was normal too. Which was weird because 1 eye still didn’t seem as clear to me, but whatever, I was breathing easier as whatever it was seemed to have passed. I now think this eye situation was somehow caused by the sjw but at the time that didn’t occur to me and I kept taking it everyday for about 3 more days until I finished my regime.

Now the amazing part was that after I stopped taking sjw, I started having MW again. That was amazing. I hadn’t had MW for 8-10 years! Another huge thing was that I started dreaming again. The dreams are kinda scattered and short and non-sense but again, I can’t recall having a dream for the 8-10 years before. So these were huge improvements. Again, not 100%, probably only 20% of the pre-pssd me, but I consider them huge breakthroughs.

And then for the bad side. Sexually, I don’t think sjw has made much difference for me. I’m still dependent on Viagra when needed. But much worse than this is my libido has crashed back to 0%. And the anhedonia is in full affect (100%) nothing interests me. I enjoy nothing, and I’m not motivated to do anything. These 2 things have probably been what I consider the worst affects of pssd for me and now I’m right back where I started. It’s super depressing.

But I am a bit further ahead, because I at least am aware of what’s happening to me this time and I was able to drag myself up a little ways from this bottom before so I’m hopeful I can do it again. Anyway, the moral of this story is please think carefully about what progress you might lose before trying sjw. In my case, I wish I could just go back to the way I was before I took it. That 1 month experiment might end up setting my recovery back a year or more.
I read that you made great improvements until 2019, I also suffer 11 years of pssd. could you tell me what made you better before it got worse with sjw?

DrugsAreBad: thanks. I’ll look into inositol.

Br-pssd: well I wouldn’t call it “great improvements” but I did have “some” improvements. I can say that seemingly nothing changed until I started actively trying to make a change. For years I never even knew I had a problem, until I stumbled upon PSSD online here and other places and realized that was what happened to me. That was almost exactly 3 years ago. It’s hard to know if something you did or are doing is helping or if time is playing a factor. I’m not sure exactly what steps I took that were the most beneficial. But I plan now to look back over my notes to try to find a pattern. I can say one thing definitively: the first thing I took was ginkgo (120mg 50:1 extract, 2 times per day (9am & 6 pm)) and it helped with shrinkage and also helped with having occasional MW- which I think is essential because you’ve got to start getting blood flowing down there. If I took it too late it would keep me awake. Anyway, that was the first thing that I was like, “ok, these symptoms can be corrected”. Later I started a daily regime of mostly vitamins and also started Intermittent fasting. Eventually I started doing full fasts, usually around 3 days. I kinda overdid it on the fasting, I think and I lost a lot of weight. Now I’m only doing IF (17 or 18 hrs) 2 or 3 days per week. Oh yeah, and exercise. I started going to the gym and doing heavy weight training 3-4 times per week. I did notice that “leg days” seem to alleviate some symptoms for 24 hrs or so.

Anyway, I’ve gotta climb myself back out of this hole once again so I’ll be going over my old notes and trying to replicate where I was. I’m sure it’s possible. If I can come up with anything I think could help others I’ll be sure to post here.

I've had some st john wort kicking about for about six months, I wanted to give it a try, but inositol crashed me badly , so I've been too scared to try the SJW.
I think that anyone trialling any of these things needs to be really careful to start off with a low dose and then slowly increase to allow the body to get used to it. The same goes for stopping something, even if you've only taken it for a short period. I started high with inositol, got scared by what was happening and stopped after 3 days. You don't want to give your body a shock.

If you have a less severe form of PSSD, I think exercise can really aid recovery. The first time I took SSRIs, I had some ED for quite a while afterwards ( I had no idea about PSSD then). I ran 8 laps of a running track every evening and eventually I was back to normal. Exercise is a weird one for me now. Sometimes it makes me worse, sometimes helps a little.

I honestly believe in the therapeutic effect of sjw.

I'm on another sjw cycle right now.

It DOES act as an SSRI/maoI for me. And pretty fast too. So there IS potential fir harm.

The trick with sjw is to find the sweet spot. For me it's 300 mg every other day. If I tske it every day it gives me anxiety/panic attack and worsens my pssd due to high serotonine.

yeah, idk the % of your extract but I'd keep it at that range too like 150mg / day or 150-300 / eod

both hyperforin and hypericin are sndri so when you add both that is more than enough to inhibit DAT
