are mood stablizers safe?

my doctor wants me on mood stablizer, ive been through ssris and got life ruined by them, you know how it goes. Question is, are mood stablizer anywhere as dangerous as ssris?

i did some research and it seems mood stabilizer also reduce dopamine and increase serotonin, i think this will definitely be as bad as ssris.

Lithium is an example used mostly in bipolar to help reducing the rollercoaster life of extremes: manic/hypomanic, then burning out a lot of energy until ended hopeless and depressed. Over and over again.
